The Hangout Events is a new event service offering outstanding after-school party events at middle schools in the greater Des Moines area.
We offer outstanding after-school party events with opportunities for fun games, great crafts, outdoor recreation, and some cool science experiments. It all happens in a fun flexible environment.
Meet the owner
Matt Brandt is a substitute teacher for Urbandale and West Des Moines school districts, mainly subbing at middle schools. He teaches economics as a part-time adjunct instructor at Drake University and is evening shift lead at a grocery store. He worked at Youth Emergency Services and Shelter (now part of Ellipsis) for a year, and led the Hubbell Elementary School before and after school program in Des Moines for four years. Matt is lucky to have had the opportunity to have worked with and been inspired by amazing youth and other amazing people at middle schools, the youth shelter, and other places. Matt feels that while school and structure are important, so is hangout, hang loose, let loose, good clean flexible fun – and that is where The Hangout Events strives to excel.

The arrangement is flexible, renting the gym and cafeteria at the middle school and charging admission, or providing after-school party events paid for by the district.
